Skilled Trades Community Outreach Forum Sat, Sept. 15th from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Partnering with the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus (EWMC), the KCMO NAACP Branch, the KCMO Parks & Recreation Department along with several other sponsors will host a forum to introduce and inform the community on entry-level requirements for twenty-one (21) + construction trades and labor jobs. Representatives from the KC Firefighters and Police Department will also be there. This event will take place at the Brush Creek Community Center and the Spirit of Freedom Fountain, Cleveland & Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd, KCMO. Register to vote and/or update your voting address. Food and beverages will also be served. Encourage anyone and everyone 18 years and older to attend and gain this invaluable employment information from all of the building and construction trades under one roof at the same time!

Branch General Membership Meeting Tuesday, Sept. 18th at 6:30 pm
At 7:15 pm, Shelley McThomas, Democratic Director of the KC Election Board will present a forum entitled, “Voting 101: Bringing Voter Education to You”. A Touch Screen machine will also be available for demonstration of actual voting. This meeting takes place at the Brush Creek Community Center at Cleveland & Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. Members and the general public are invited, especially first time voters.
Branch business will take place from 6:30 – 7:15 pm. The main agenda item will be an election of the Nominating Committee for the upcoming Branch Election of officers or at-large members of the Executive Committee in November 2012, date to be determined. All members whose memberships are current as of 30 days prior to this September 18th meeting may be elected to the Nominating Committee.
On October 16, 2012 at the general membership meeting, there will be a report of the Nominating Committee, receipt of Nominations by Petition and the election of the Election Supervisory Committee. All members whose memberships were current as of April 1, 2012 may be nominated for office or as an at-large Executive Committee member.
Affordable Health Care Forum Saturday, Sept. 22 & Sept. 29thfrom 10:00 am – 11:30 Noon
The Branch Health Committee in partnership with the Concerned Clergy Health Task Force will present education about how the Affordable Health Care Act will benefit those it was designed to help. Qualified professionals will provide real answers to your health and wellness questions. The Sept. 22nd forum will take place at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center, 3700 Blue Pkwy, KCMO and the Sept. 29th forum will take place at Zion Grove Baptist Church, 2801 Swope Parkway, KCMO. Both forums are free and open to the public. MO NAACP State Conference Fri, Sept. 28th – Sat, Sept. 29th, 2012
The annual NAACP MO State Conference will take place on Fri, 9-28 at 12:00 noon– Sat, 9/29 in St. Louis, MO at the Ramada Inn, 811 N. 9th St. Room rates are $75.00 per night. Several workshops will take place. Adult registration is $50.00 and Youth registration is $25.00. All are welcome to attend.
