NAACP Applauds Supreme Court for Upholding Healthcare for People

Turns out Congress has the power to ensure that its citizenry doesn't die for lack of health care (or because they are poor and can't afford it).  Some people are already asking - can we get rid of it?  Answer - If you like it fine.  If you hate it fine.  Use your next time you can to determine if someone will take your right to health care away.  As for the Jefferson City NAACP, we stand on the NAACP statement recently issued:June 28, 2012

(Baltimore, MD) – The NAACP has released the following statement from NAACP Chairman Roslyn M. Brock regarding the United States Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the individual mandate of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

“The Supreme Court made a crucial decision today to uphold the core provisions of the Affordable Care Act,” stated NAACP Chairman Roslyn M. Brock. “The NAACP has long supported the full and complete implementation of this law. Access to quality, affordable health care is a civil and human right that should not be reserved for the wealthy or the few. The 32 million American men, women and children covered under this law can now breathe easier.”

“Many serious health issues are preventable,” Brock continued. “But far too often, patients who lack health insurance – especially patients of color – enter medical facilities late in the progression of their diagnosis. This sad reality is costing lives and costing American taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars in unnecessary health care bills. States can now move forward in implementing health care reform with the knowledge that the Affordable Care Act is not going anywhere anytime soon.”
