St.Louis County NAACP to host Freedom Fund Dinner

The St. Louis County branch NAACP will hold its annual Freedom Fund Dinner at the Clayton Ritz Carlton Hotel on June 5. This year’s theme is “your power, your vote, your decision.” The keynote speaker is U.S Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II of Kansas City and Chair of the United States Congressional Black Caucus.
This year’s Inspiring St. Louisan award recipients include:
- Cheryl Roberts - manager, prganizational development
- and training, Energizer North America
- Ryan Hammer - general manager and senior vice president,
- Harrah’s St. Louis
- Lavicki Hart - senior vice president, Citi Financial
- Hugh McVey - President, Missouri AFL-CIO
- Michael McMillan - license collector, City of St. Louis
This year’s Benjamin Lawson Hooks Exceptional Educator of the
year award winners, named after the first
African American appointed to the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC), include:
- Dr. Darrell Strong - assistant superintendent,Hazelwood School District
- Angela Haywood Gaskin - teacher at Ladue Horton Wakins High School
- Charles Smith - vice president, Missouri NEA
- Joylynn Wilson-Pruitt - superintendent, University City School District
- Rose Mary John - president, Jennings School Board and
- retired educator, St. Louis Public Schools
A reception will start at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner
program starting at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $85.
